Wizard of Oz? no? yes?

I can't make up my mind. haha

yet ANOTHER Wizard of Oz connection: last week, google's front page was the scene where the forest opens up to the poppy field and you see the Emerald City in the distance.. it's everywhere!! And this HORRIBLE book I read (I honestly don't know why I read through the whole thing) had a reference to the Wicked Witch of the West. AND we talked about it all weekend. ANNNNNDDD the new watertower in Wamego is supposed to be painted like the wizard's hot air balloon. Now, for those of you who don't know, Wamego is smack dab in the middle of northeast Kansas, (like the Wizard of Oz story) and is the effective capital of OZ stuff in the US, the only thing they're missing is an actual set of ruby slippers, and I can't figure out why the Smithsonian won't lend the pair they have to Wamego.... so it makes sense that the water tower will be painted like the Wizard's balloon... my only issue is: in the movie, the wizard - who is a "Kansas man, like [Dorothy]" - who got blown away from the state fair, is flying a hot air balloon from the OMAHA STATE FAIR.... does this make sense to anyone? (besides the obvious political references from both the books and the movie era). there were a lot of people in Hollywood that thought that Omaha was in Kansas - or didn't think enough of it to mention anything.

okay, now that I have most of my recent OZ stuff out of the way.

I have incredibly sore extremities, muscles, hands, arms, back, etc. from moving my family this last weekend. it was nice to be with them, but I seriously feel like I need a week to recouperate - I haven't picked up and moved that many things in AGES, I really don't think I moved that much stuff in college, or when the fam moved into the house they just moved out of. yikes!! I am sooo sore!

BUT that doesn't give me room to skip Step class tonight because I haven't been to the gym since last Thursday... my argument with myself was that I was going to be doing all that lifting, toting, packing, loading, unloading for more than 24 hours.... and that would make up for not being at the gym...

then, on Monday I had to go to the City Council Meeting, so I couldn't go to the classes Monday night.

oh well, enough excuses. Step class tonight, volleyball tomorrow night... maybe zumba for the first time thursday? looking forward to it!!

Alert the Media!!

Day two of posting. Who would have thunk it?

A couple of silly things: As I was watching the Sing Along version of the Wizard of Oz last night - for the thirteen-hundredth time - I noticed something interesting. During the song "Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead" all of the little words at the end of the lines rhyme with Witch. Itch, switch, hitch... the only one that doesn't they have conveniently hyphenated to go the next line: SIT-uation. HAHAH. The ONLY reason this was amusing to me last night was that last night was the premiere of Jersey Shore 2: Miami. With GTL, the Situation, Smushing, etc. I, unfortunately, do not have cable, and can only hope that it did not get erased from the DVR at my family's house, in order to watch it in all it's wonderful goodness. hahaha.

Just another way that the Wizard of Oz is connected to current pop culture. I feel like it's EVERYWHERE. and I LOVE IT!!.

Now, I feel like this has become a blog all about the Wizard of Oz... No, it isn't. All about the Wizard of Oz, that is. It's just that I grew up in Kansas with a family that loves and cherishes the story, and we just always enjoyed it. AANNDD everything in pop culture relates to it, somehow. So, there you go.

Additionally, and completely not related to OZ: I want to do something that allows me to be outside in the sunshine for at least 30 minutes per day. At this rate, I don't even get that much. UGH, I can't believe the lack of melanin in my skin. I want, desperately, to work a crush this year. Be a cellar rat, have purple stained hands, and grape-skins in unmentionable places(in my socks). It's always interesting to me what interests I end up developing and why. I just really enjoy wine, talking about wine, drinking wine, selling wine, making wine. I wish I had more of a hand in making it. Dang. I want to be around grapes all the time!! ha

Anyway... Eventually, I will get down the art of writings posts with a flow - as opposed to train of thought - and you won't have to suffer through inane information that doesn't even make sense. It will be inane information in an appropriate format.

Back Again, Again

I keep realizing how long it's been between the posts here, and notice how bad a communicator I am. I need to be much better at communicating, and am, therefore, going to try to hone my skills on this blog...

Don't read any further if you want to see something funny, interesting, or in the least big insightful. I promise, you won't find it here - this is merely a tool for me to get my thoughts out.

As soon as I have something I want to put down, I will...

Middle of November

Hello all!

It is now the middle of November, and I've decided to update again.

I have all sorts of things on the horizon, job-wise, only a few of them are really desirable to me. I'm working pretty regularly at Cafe Mestizo, in the neighborhood, and that is a blast! Who knew? I would become a knowledgable barista! haha. It's a blast, it's a great environment, and there could be some pretty serious hours looking up soon. On the other hand, I haven't started the Macy's job yet, that starts this weekend, and will be a blast, I'm sure. I'll get to deal with "specialty jewelry" all day every day. Woo!! And I have to contact the woman at Fanny May on Wacker and Michigan about a job there. So, I have a pretty full schedule, but not something that I REALLY want to do as a serious career.

I also have put together a small list of things I want to do or have accomplished by the time I'm thirty, a little more than seven years from now. I'll share them here:

I want to have held a position in the same company for at least 5 years.
I want to be making at least $50,000 a year.
I want to have a serious relationship.
I want to have traveled to a foreign country that is not in North America.
I want to have gone on a cruise.
I want to have seriously considered marriage.
I want to have considered having children.
I want to have returned to school for a Masters in either Clinical Psychology or Public Administration.
I want to have lived in Chicago and at least one other large city outside of Kansas.

I feel like those are all reasonable, and I am beginning to work on realizing some of them. I'll be back soon for more news.

Updates

Wow, I forgot about this blog. How interesting that we can browse through thousands of blogs of people we don't know and subjects that previously didn't interest us.

Anyway, I guess it's been four years since I started my last blog, that one was trying to keep my high school buddies updated on my life at my small college. It's probably still out there somewhere, who knows? I suppose I've always found this a bit odd because I think one would have to have either something important to keep someone updated on - your life in a different country - or a rather large ego. It is interesting to hold this as a sort of journal, I think that's how I'll look at it.

I've been living in Chicago for five months, now, and am still working on finding a serious, full-time job that pays. I have had a lot of interesting opportunities, but none have panned out, yet. I'm doing an internship of sorts for a company called Duerst-Lahti, Global, we're involved in neutraceuticals and health remedies/supplements, and are developing many parts of the company from the ground up. It's a thrilling process to be involved with: I've learned an incredible amount about companies, exports, imports, health and natural products industries. It's exciting!

I also have a pretty good relationship developing with a company called Acquirent, an outsourced sales company. Unfortunately, I seem to not be the right candidate, yet. I'm keeping that iron on the stove, but have slowed the stoking of the fire. I'm hoping that my most recent endeavor goes well; it should resolve in the next couple of days, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I did see my future husband today! haha, no, he was just very attractive, and very much my type. It was amusing, considering I had very recently had a conversation about "my type" with Elena.

Anyway, I guess that's the shortest update I can give you as to my recent life.
